Paraffin wax is a somewhat translucent hard wax made up of a mixture of solid straight-chain hydrocarbons. It is derived from petroleum through the process of dewaxing light lubricating oil stocks. It is mainly used in the manufacture of candles, polishes, electrical insulators and waterproof coatings.
